Kristi Milley is the founder of Careers with Clarity.
She has been on her own career journey. The product of that quiet self-reflection and loud shout into the void turned out to be Careers with Clarity.
Starting her career as a medical scientist, she realised her brain was always burning with lots of questions. Research seemed like a place where you get to spend your time asking questions and finding their answers. So, she decided that undertaking a PhD and working academia were the place to be. But, what living in the academic world actually taught her was that she was a creative fireball who was constantly looking for ways to help other researchers.
So, after seeing the giant ravine that stands between PhD students, early career researchers, academics and the career development support they need, she found her Ikigai. Ikagai is what we call that sweet spot which brings together what we’re good at, what we love, what we can be paid for and what the world needs.
The only way Careers with Clarity could excite her further is the possibility of it producing a line of handmade merchandise featuring out of context pop culture references.
What Kristi has found important for successful career development and planning:
Small steps to make reaching a goal easier
Knowing your strengths to use them effectively
Creating a flexible plan that moves at your own pace
Recognising opportunities so you can experiment with new professional versions of yourself.
All of Kristi’s qualifications and post-nominals, in case they’re important: RMIT University - B. App Sci (Laboratory Medicine) (Honours), RMIT University - PhD (Laboratory Medicine), QUT - Grad Cert in Education (Career Development and Counselling).
